đź’ˇ Student Loan Refunds: A Small Win You Might Be Missing
Like many of us, I see that familiar deduction on my payslip every month: “Student Loan.”
No matter where you stand on the topic of education funding, carrying a student loan can often feel like a lifelong financial shadow. I had the pleasure (read: pain) of checking my loan balance recently, only to realise that my monthly payments aren’t even covering the interest.
Not exactly motivating.
But here’s something that did feel a bit more positive:
đź’¸ In January, I discovered a little-known tip (credit to MoneySavingExpert.com for highlighting it). Some of us have been overpaying on our student loans.
Here’s what to do:
1. Log into your Student Loan account.
2. Scroll down to the right-hand side and look for “Request a Refund.”
3. Click it. HMRC will check your payment history, and if you’ve overpaid, you’ll get a refund.
⏱ It takes about five minutes to request.
📬 Refunds typically take 2 – 4 weeks to process.
It might not be a life-changing amount, but the cash I received back definitely didn’t hurt.
It’s worth checking – especially in times when every little bit helps.
Have you tried this? Let us know if you found a refund too!
